Yesterday Markel & I met with a visionary who has followed Jesus without fear for most of his life. The stories he shared were goosebump-inspiring. We left there a bit speechless wondering what God was up to...later last night he sent a text asking us to describe our dream in detail.
Have you ever taken the time to ponder your dream? I feel like I’m nearing the halfway marker in life & want my 2nd half to create Kingdom impact that will ripple for generations to come.
I often think of heaven & sometimes fear there might be lavishly wrapped, unopened gifts I missed because I wasn’t following the Holy Spirit. I mean, not like a new iPhone type-gift, but gifts for my children’s children & even children that aren’t mine.
I know the much I’ve been given with this free gift of salvation & I want my life to be like Paul’s, “poured out like a liquid offering unto God”.
In Paul’s letter to the Philippians, he exhorts us to, “work hard to show the RESULTS of your salvation, obeying God with deep reverence & fear. For God is working IN you, GIVING you the desire {dream?} & power to do what pleases Him.”
What caught my eye was the phrase “work out”. It translates to “render fit”.
We have faith in a FINISHED salvation, but we are called to render lives fit of that finished work.
Salvation is already worked IN us by the Spirit who enables us through faith to be justified, but then we work it out by letting the result of our salvation be revealed through the way we live.
Dreaming requires us to look to the end. It’s so easy to complacently rest in the means & forget about the end. I know that the means of my salvation is secure & yet I want the beginning of the means to the very end of my life to be overflowing with the results of my salvation!
Y’all, we’ve been brought from death to life eternal!
We can rest in the salvation, but we just might miss out on the WHOLE LOT MORE that comes from living a life with eyes fixed on the end!
Father, give us an eternal perspective that helps us to dream far beyond this moment. Guard us from the enemy’s lure of complacency. Lift our gaze above the fray of today to see how our lives might become a poured out drink offering for others good & Your great glory!
