My youngest sons saw fit to buy some fireworks for the Fourth of July. When I saw the receipt laying on the table I about fell out my chair! I said, “Zay, did you really spend over $200 on fireworks?!”
He gave me a sheepish grin & enthusiastically replied yes while telling me all the details behind each one.
He saved the best for last & said, “This one? This one is the best! It will send a sonic boom that can be heard up to five miles!”
Wowza! I had all the mom feels in the moment, picturing all of the, “what if’s...”
Well, as I read Paul’s words this am describing God’s kingdom - that it’s not just mere talk but living by God’s power, the sonic boom firework popped into my thoughts.
The word Paul uses for “power” shares the same root word as dynamite
“Dunamis” means strength & power through God’s ability.
It is very easy to talk the Christian talk but to walk it out? We don’t have the power to do that in & of ourselves. We need to be plugged into the Source of all things! Our Father in heaven loves us so much that He gave us His Son, Emmanuel, Who is ever with us!
When things become heavy or hard, mere talk is not enough - whether it’s self talk or encouraging others.
There is a massive difference between speaking our own words & confessing, professing & proclaiming the Word of God! He simply said, “Let there be light”, & there was light. His Word holds power eternal!
Life this side of heaven can be hard but we have a source of power that is spectacular! It can create a sonic boom that rings even unto the nations! The question is this: will we stay plugged into the source or remain like an idle firework waiting to be lit?
Father, create in us a longing to spend time in Your Word. It is the only Source that has transformational power to change all things! There are many things we desire this side of heaven, but You are all we need! May our lives become like blinding fireworks that fill the night sky, revealing the glory of Who you are & Whose we are with a sonic boom that can be heard through the nations! #oneyearbible
