Yesterday Markel & I gathered with a group of Jesus lovers to worship & pray together. I’ll be honest, as I was getting ready to go, I was tempted to cancel. The “why” doesn’t really matter, but what does matter is that had we not attended, we would’ve missed out on something incredible.
This morning Paul writes about the Body of Christ, exhorting readers with this:
“A spiritual gift is given to each of us so we can help each other.”
Just like our physical body, we all have a part that benefits the whole. He writes how strange our body would be if we only had an eye - we wouldn’t be able to hear! He goes further, reminding us that we cannot say to the hand, “I don’t need you.”
It seems like such a silly example, but I am a visual learner and this preaches to my very core! A big, honking eye all by itself is just ugly 😳 & since I’m currently operating with one arm in a cast, I’m keenly aware of my need of my right hand!
Y’all! Our world is in utter chaos. While the hopeless in this world are in search of a Savior, there are many in the church busy searching for something else.😬
As followers of Jesus, we ALL have a gift, a manifestation of the Spirit, but the verse doesn’t end there...
Why the gift? “...so we can help each other.”
👉🏽We ALL have something.
👉🏽NONE of us have everything.
Yesterday, Markel & I placed ourselves in close proximity with the Body of Christ, & therefore in close proximity with Jesus. We didn’t know why we were going, but we beheld our Savior in that little sanctuary of worship! Each person there, young old, single, married, all had a facet of the Spirit of our living God in them!
-one to give wise advice
-one to give a word of knowledge
-one to share great faith & the list could go on...(see 1 Cor. 12 !)
It is easy in today’s culture to withdraw from The Body, but it is in the isolation & self reliance that our “part” begins to die like a branch broken from the vine.
Father, woo us to The Body. Holy Spirit, remind us of Your Presence within & help us to prioritize places where You might manifest your comforting & counseling Presence through our relinquished lives SO THAT many may be helped- including us!
